This is a simple but really meaningful craft that you can do with your family. With Fathers’ Day round the corner, you can surprise Daddy with these homemade magnets to display in his office or thank your kids’ teachers on Teachers’ Day. I like the fact that we are recycling jar lids into beautiful magnets, teaching kids the important environmental message of Reuse, Reduce and Recycle! It’s also a craft where you can put all your selfie shots to good use and print directly from your mobile phones using the PIXMA Printing Solutions App!

1. Collect a few wide mouth jar lids . Wash and dry them.

2. Select digital photos and resize them depending on the size of lids you are going to use. To maximise the A4-sized Canon High Gloss Photo Paper which I had bought, I laid out my photos using a 2.25″ PSD Circle Template which I bought from Etsy. P.S. If you need one, I’ll be happy to email the template to you. Just leave your name and email address in the comment below.

3. Print the page with the Canon Pixma Photo Printer.Use a circle punch to trim the photos. If you do not have a circle punch, just cut with scissors.

4. Paint the inside of the jar lid with the Gloss Mod Podge. Stick your photo on it right away and smooth out any bubbles with your fingers. Add a coat of Gloss Mod Podge on top of the photo and let it dry. It will dry clear.

There you have it – your very own upcycled Jar Lid Family Magnets! We specially made a few and snail-mailed to Dana’s Penang Mama (Paternal Grandma) and she was so happy to receive these personalised mementoes! We enjoyed making these magnets so much we’re collecting more jar lids for our next craft session!

Supplies Needed:
