When I first unboxed the JBL Horizon<\/a>, it was love at first sight. Gone are the clumsy, boxy designs often associated with radio clocks. Instead, hardly noticeable are three tiny buttons and one long oval button flushed seamlessly with the design. The smaller buttons function as the \u2018command\u2019 buttons that allow users to select options during set up for daily use and the latter is the all important snooze\/sleep button. Apart from these, the other daily functions such as FM radio selection, Bluetooth activation, volume control and alarm selection are tastefully hidden beneath the matt rubber lining which wraps around the JBL Horizon<\/a>. All these functions are activated with just a light touch, a much welcome departure from the cold, impersonal interface of typical clock radios.<\/p>\n

To accentuate the desirability of the JBL Horizon<\/a>, its back is lined with an opaque tube which emanates a warm ambient halo-like glow when activated. This is an instant mood-setter to any room along with the soft, soothing music coming from its legendary JBL speakers.\u00a0 Speaking of sound reproduction, the sound quality of a JBL needs no introduction.\u00a0 Even the Mrs. who is not an audiophile was impressed with its rich room-filling stereo sound. To add to that, we were pleased with the added convenience of being able to stream our favourite tunes from our own smart phones and Mac desktop via its fuss-free Bluetooth connectivity.\u00a0 The 2 USB ports tucked right below the JBL Horizon<\/a> are high-speed chargers that allow busy Mommies and Daddies (like us) to charge their smart phones simultaneously while streaming their favourite tunes to wind down during our ‘Me’ times or to catch up with friends and family after a long day.<\/p>\n

The ‘staple’ features packed into this compact clock radio also received an upgrade in the form of JBL’s innovative touch. The LCD panel that displays important information like the date, day and time uses LED lights which adjust the level of ambient light according to our needs.\u00a0 The digital tuner enables quick, accurate tuning with clear stereo FM sounds from 5 preset radio stations. The alarm feature comes with 2 alarm settings which we can choose to activate either during weekday or weekends. This saves us the trouble to activate the alarm during weeknights and to deactivate during weekends. We can also select what we would like to hear as an alarm – whether to use any of their 3 default preset sounds, buzzer, any of its 5 preset FM stations or stream our favourite tunes from our smart devices via Bluetooth. Very intuitive for a clock radio!<\/p>\n
