As parents, we know that developing a sense of imagination, curiosity and humor is essential in a child. It will help in their later years when they face challenges and need to be resourceful, creative and resilient to withstand the stresses of life.<\/p>\n

Which is why, once in awhile when a show like Bubble Magic<\/a> comes to our shores, it\u2019s a rare opportunity for us (kids and adults) to have our conventions and presumptions challenged and stretched. I mean, what can we really do with bubbles? Apart from seeing it float and pop?<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Bubble Magic<\/a>, the two-man show led by Pep Bou<\/a> proves us all wrong. With their entertaining, energetic and hilarious slapstick antics, the duo will have you laughing non-stop while you marvel at how they make bubbles look and move like a string of pearls, putting toys and other everyday objects into bubbles and taking them out again with the bubble completely intact. Kids and adults look in awe as they then contort the bubbles into all sorts of shapes and sizes, with ease. <\/p>\n

Another convention which the show breaks would be the need for speech. Yes, not a word was spoken or exchanged throughout the uninterrupted 70-minute performance except for a make-believe language between themselves, which sounded suspiciously like \u2018Minion\u2019-talk. THAT, added a few more notches of fun for the young audiences and earned a few more tons of laughter.<\/p>\n

Embellishing the captivating performances are well-timed and stunning lighting effects which turned the transparent bubbles into psychedelic coloured blobs and orbs, transforming the grand Jubilee Hall into a surreal and magical world. However, those with very young children may need to prep their young broods as the theatre will grow pitch dark during these segments.  Not to worry though, even if they are startled, once the performance changes, your young one will be laughing in no time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Bubble Magic is not to be missed. It\u2019s a show for all ages, offering all in the family a wonderful chance to rediscover something refreshingly new and an opportunity for all in the family to laugh out loud together. It\u2019s truly magical what bubbles can do!<\/p>\n

How to Survive Bubble Magic:<\/b><\/p>\n

1. Venue: <\/b><\/span>The Jubille Hall is situated on the 3rd level of the Raffles Hotel. There\u2019s an old wood-panelled lift tucked at a corner which will take you there but, it is quite old and you\u2019d be faster walking up the grand marble staircase if you can.<\/p>\n

2. Parking: <\/b><\/span>We parked at Odeon Towers, just next to Bras Basah because the parking charges at Raffles Hotel is out of this world. Alternatively, you can park along the roadside of Seah Street or Purvis Street for the usual URA fee. Parking lots at Bras Basah complex get filled up quite fast but otherwise it\u2019s quite economical. Odeon Towers wasn\u2019t too bad. For the entire 150 minutes we parked (complete with time for lunch, wait time and performance duration), I paid about $4 for parking. <\/p>\n

3. \u2018Go\u2019 early:<\/b><\/span> Go to the wash room before the performance. This is a 70-minute uninterrupted and highly entertaining performance. Miss any segments at your own expense. <\/p>\n

4. Darkness falls:<\/span><\/b> For some segments, the hall will be turned pitch dark. Do prep younger kids for this. If your kids are uncomfortable, you can bring them outside, wait a few minutes and bring them in again once the lights are turned on.<\/p>\n

5. DIY Giant Bubble:<\/b><\/span> If your kids can’t get enough of Bubble Magic, you can try making some of your own at home with this tutorial from one of our favourite crafters, Scissors Paper Stone Blog<\/a>.   <\/p>\n
