I finally know why I feel so melancholic in the days leading up to New Year. For me, New Year's Eve is less about the future than it is about the past year. And 2018 has been tumultuous. The year jolted to a rude start with my cancer diagnosis. I remember how the news plunged my family into a state of despair yet friends, colleagues and even readers rallied around us (#LoveisaVerb), and gave us strength to face each doc visit. In early Feb, I went through a life-saving 6 hours surgery at … [Read more...]
Thankful Tuesday: A Poem for AJ
Sharing a tender moment... In a twinkle, our once wrinkly baby is 3 months old. Gone are the newborn onesies which you outgrow. In its place a tubby winsome bud who coos and smiles, Affirming that big leapt of faith we took to go the extra mile. For this child, we tarried and prayed And 3 months ago, we heard God said, 'Go ahead'. From the moment you were placed in our arms, you snuggled cosily right into our hearts. For all the tears that God has bottled How precious to … [Read more...]
Thankful Tuesday: Counting The Little Blessings…
I've been tagged by a dear Mommy friend, Justina of Mum in the Making for this Thankfulness Challenge that's been making its round on Facebook: 3 things to be thankful for 5 days, and then tagging 2 other friends each day to do the same. I've been thanking God with Dana nightly when I kiss her goodnight and in private contemplation before I go bed but I guess there are merits in being more intentional in counting our blessings. Today, I thank God for:1. The miracle of … [Read more...]
A fall on April’s Fools..
April didn't get off to a good start...This morning, as I was busy getting myself ready (after getting Dana ready), I stepped out of the bathroom in a hurry, slipped, fell backwards and hit my head flat on the floor. I let out a loud shriek which stunned Dana and the help. I was momentarily paralysed and writhing in shock. In desperation, they did what they knew best - ring Daddy. I assured him I was fine, that he needn't make the drive home but he turned up at the door anyway just … [Read more...]
Home & Away – A Mothers’ Day Staycation…
Mother's Day, a day about thanking and appreciating the women in our lives whose sacrifices and love shape us into who we are today. So when the occasion and the weekend presented itself, we scooped Dana's Grandma, Great-Grandma, Grand Aunt Judy off to somewhere off the beaten track for an inter-generational getaway. Our choice? Nope, not boisterous RWS Sentosa but the quaint old Changi Village. Going East to escape from it all!Bright facade of the hotel jazzing up the relaxed vibes … [Read more...]
Biking and Self-Esteem…
Night bike training... We have an ambitious goal to teach Dana to ride a two wheeler by the end of the year but the first few training sessions didn't go as well as we had hoped. Daddy had simply removed the extra training wheel from her existing bicycle and hope she can master the art of balancing on a two wheeler through repeated trial and errors. Standing on the sideline cheering her on, I could sense her frustrations and disappointments...Her self-confidence took a good … [Read more...]
Thankful Tuesday: Our very own Gratitude Journal…
Source The year is coming to a close. You know the footsteps of Christmas are near when malls (and even your neighbourhood super-mart) start piling their shelves with candy canes, nutcrackers and other Christmasy festive food supplies. Soon Christmas jingles will fill the air and assault us everywhere we turn...frenzied shoppers will congregate at the malls buying gifts with little clue if they would be well-received or recycled the following day/week/year (depending on when the gifts were given … [Read more...]
Thankful Tuesday: Getaway to Get Together…
We just got back from a short getaway to Bangkok...a destination which we last visited in 2000 as a young couple...I'm thankful that despite hubby's hectic workload, he managed to set aside few days to grant my desire for a regional getaway...we've both been feeling we've neglected each other of late and this trip, though short, was a good one. We visited new sites, tried new cuisines and even indulged in Thai massages two days in a row...something which we've never done before. So I'm thankful … [Read more...]
Thankful Tuesday: Teaching Children to Worship…
Last month, we went to Tecman Christian Bookstore in search of a new women's devotional bible (which was supposedly an overdue Mother's Day gift promised by Daddy). As usual, we lingered around in the bookstore even after I found my bible; browsing the wide variety of resources on sale.In the far corner of the shop, this series of Children's Worship CD from 'Streams of Praise Taiwan' caught my attention with its colourful, bright graphics. Daddy liked the fact that each CD comes with free … [Read more...]
Thankful Tuesday: Revisiting Dana’s Infancy to Toddlerhood
It's Tuesday and I'm thankful for the relaxing free & easy holiday enjoying the sights & sounds in Taiwan, where we intentionally slowed down our pace, threw our agendas to the wind and simply enjoyed each other's company as a family. As parents, we always lament that our children are growing up way too fast and we wish we can slow the clock so they'll stay forever cute and innocent...but it was only when we chanced upon this video (stored in our old PC hard disk) few days ago that it … [Read more...]
