For some reasons, the 3rd birthday is an important milestone in my books. Partly because I still have in my possession, a faded yellowish b/w photograph of a big, old-fashioned Number 3 butter-cream cake taken on my 3rd birthday at home. Our son Alexander (more affectionately known as 'Buddy' on our blog and social media accounts) turns 3 today. He's our last baby and for that reason alone, this milestone got David and I all sentimental. We still remember vividly how, … [Read more...]
A Terrific 8th Tag Team Party!
Before Dana's 8th Birthday drew near, we decided we would throw a unique party for her and her Primary 2 classmates before they part ways to different classes next year. On a daily basis, the girls have limited interactions which are centred around lessons, recess and after school CCAs. A laser tag party would allow the birthday girl and her friends to let their hair down (literally) and experience something special which they can talk about for many days after! We managed to keep it a … [Read more...]
A Letter to my 8 year old on the Eve of her Birthday…
My Dearest Dana Somehow this year, you were really eagerly anticipating the arrival of your birthday, even though Daddy and I managed your expectations by telling you that there will be no big celebrations for you after you turned 7. But still on New Year's Day, you set the wooden calendar on top of the piano to 05 Apr (your birth-date), starting the slow but sure count down to your 8th Birthday. You have grown so much so quickly these past two years since entering Primary School, … [Read more...]
He Chose Us…Celebrating Alexander’s 1st Birthday
A year ago today…this tiny little baby chose us. It happened within a day. A phone call, a trip to the hospital and then we began this journey, all over again… It was a regular day, both David and I were at work and the daughter had just returned home from kindergarten. I was in a long-drawn meeting when I received a missed call from an adoption agent whom I had contacted months back. We had prayed for an open door to adopt a sibling for Dana since 4 years ago but it somehow … [Read more...]
An Arty Abrakadoodle Birthday Party!
Abrakadoodle is the pioneer art school in Singapore where children learn about famous artists and try to replicate their styles of painting. Indeed learning from best practices sets the benchmark for effective learning, even for adults. Abrakadoodle's art syllabus is customized to bite-size nuggets, easy for young kids to comprehend, apply and retain the knowledge. When Dana was a pre-schooler, we spent many fond Saturday mornings at Abrakadoodle's studio where she dabbled in kiddie art … [Read more...]
Celebrating Baby AJ’s Full Month
My fav corner at the entrance of our home, adorned with a poster frame given by a dear friend... At the blink of an eye, baby Alexander turned 6 weeks today. We threw him a small full month celebration 2 Sundays ago to introduce him to our family and close friends. Due to my work schedules, I had only a week to put everything together. I decided on the colour scheme, designed the invite and thankfully, everything fell into place from there. The invite THE CELEBRATORY … [Read more...]
Dana’s Disney Frozen Party – Where Magic happens
When Dana was younger, she used to be afraid of face painting...Even when we were holidaying at Club Med Bintan, all other children queued up for their faces to be painted...except her. We couldn't understand her reservations but decided to let it be.Imagine our surprise when we discover she now adores face painting (maybe because she has since realised it can be washed off easily!). She has done face painting at Abrakadoodle Art Camps, and for her 6th Birthday Party this year, we … [Read more...]
The Mad Science Young Wizards Party!
An excited Princess at her Mad Science Party! When it comes to planning the party programmes, we have three criteria: they must be educational, fun and engaging. She devours the Young Scientist Magazines avidly and dabbles in the occasional home experiments as 'Scientist Dana and Singlet Daddy'. When Mad Science Singapore wanted to sponsor Dana with a Mad Science programme, we knew … [Read more...]
Dana’s Disney Frozen Party – The Dessert Table
We threw a 'Frozen' theme birthday celebration for Dana, a one last big bash for her before she enters Primary One in 2015. I started planning for it rather late but managed to design the invite on my own and put together a decent programme. This year for a change, Dana was tasked to draft her own guest list. Not surprisingly, she invited her classmates and a few close friends. Her birthday wish to be dressed as Princess Elsa (in 'Frozen') was granted when our dear neighbour turned BFF, Meredith … [Read more...]
