There is a mobile ice-cream seller who stations himself daily outside our daughter's school. Every afternoon after dismissal, throngs of school children in uniform would queue patiently at this ice-cream uncle's stall to buy an ice-cream to savour on their way home. Among the kids' favourites and the first to be sold out would always be Paddle Pop ice-cream. Why is Paddlepop so popular among children? According to Dana: It's tasty. It's colourful. There are many choices of Paddle … [Read more...]

Exercise Torrent 2016 – Lessons For Our Children
It’s not a Dream On the surface, it’s looks like a scene from a childhood dream – formidable F16s and F15s taxing down the runway before roaring off into the skies. Their afterburners glowing, plumes of dust and debris lifted from the wake of the awesome thrust of the jets. And us, with eyes and mouth gaped in awe at this rare sight. Except this is not dream, and this is no ordinary runway. This is an ordinary road, Lim Chu Kang Road to be precise, converted into a short runway for the … [Read more...]

Bangkok Safari World – A Drive on the Wild Side!
We visited Bangkok during the National Day long weekend in August. Because we were travelling with kids, we deliberately incorporated some kid-friendly activities into our Free & Easy itinerary. Our favourite was the visit to the Husky Cafe followed by the Airplane Graveyard. The Bangkok Safari World ranked third. The website provided scanty information so I turned to my friends' blogs, A Million Little Echoes, My Lilbookworm and Growing with The Tans before I finally decided we … [Read more...]
Charlotte’s Web by SRT – A Review
We watched Charlotte’s Web produced by the Singapore Repertory Theatre's The Little Company this morning and I left the theatre feeling all fuzzy within. The good kind of fuzzy. Even though we had read the book and knew the plot well, watching the friendship of Wilbur the pig and Charlotte the spider being played out LIVE on stage really drove home the story themes so brilliantly. A Synopsis of the Play: Photo Credit: SRT Facebook The moment we stepped into the KC Arts Theatre at Robertson … [Read more...]

When A Child Takes His Life – One Parent’s Reminder to his Future Self
(This article is written as my reflection on the challenges I faced as a parent whose kids are entering school and with it, experiencing the joys and struggles of the demanding education system. This article is not meant to judge anyone. In fact, it’s written to heighten the awareness of the tightrope every parent walks in balancing the desire to see their children achieve their potential while redefining the meaning of success in this stressful world we live … [Read more...]
{Giveaway} Charlotte’s Web by SRT’s The Little Company
But you have saved me, Charlotte,I would gladly give my life for you-I really would." ~ Wilbur You have been my friend. That in itself is a tremendous thing.” ~ Charlotte Charlotte’s Web by E.B White was my Secondary One literature text. It was my first time being exposed to literary analysis and I remember being moved by the central themes of the story: friendship, love and loyalty. Indeed, the friendship between Charlotte the Spider and Wilber the Pig is like no other; not only do … [Read more...]
