We all know that we have only 2 sets of teeth. Our adult teeth emerge from around 7 years of age and accompany us for the rest of our lives. Any serious damage to our teeth will not only be costly to treat, it may potentially impede the quality of our lives. Ironically, in an affluent and urbanized society like Singapore, tooth decay can still be a serious problem especially since we tend to consume many types of food and beverages that are high in sugar and preservatives. What makes it worse … [Read more...]

A bit of floral magic at Christmas…with Poppy Flora Studio
I've always enjoyed flowers - both receiving and giving them. We've recently just moved to a new residence so I had this secret wish that somehow, somewhere I could buy (or better still, make my own) fresh floral wreath to adorn the home for the festive season. Well, Santa must have heard my wish and granted me an invite to Poppy's Christmas Wreath Workshop! Poppy Floral Studio is not new to us. David and I used to buy flowers from them when they were still in our … [Read more...]
Swissotel Nankai Osaka Hotel – Unsurpassed Centrality, Unparalled Hospitality
Osaka was the very last stop of our family's DIY vacation to Japan. The very last visual memory I have of this wonderful country was not a bowl of steaming Ramen or a plate of fresh succulent sashimi. Nope, given that we travelled in June, it was also not of the pretty cherry blossom trees. Instead, it was the sight of a hotel bell hop, a pint sized Japanese lady (yes, lady!) pushing our luggage from the Swissotel Nankai, Osaka Hotel lobby, accompanying us all the way … [Read more...]
When Two’s a Company – A Tangram Tee Giveaway
Sometimes seeing how our 7 year-old takes to her brother kind of makes us regret. Don’t get me wrong...We regretted not getting her a sibling much sooner, though it was something beyond our control. She loves playing with her younger brother, running around and even carrying him. She loves reading to him and talking to him. She helps us babysit him (to the best of her ability) and looks forward to the day they can swim together but due to the large age gap (she’s 7 while he is just 1 this … [Read more...]
Ping’s TeoChew Seafood Restaurant, Bangkok – Out of Singapore but Feels Right At ‘Home’
When we heard the impending closure of Sashlik, we felt a tinge of sadness for it will soon join the likes of other iconic restaurants like Mong Hing, Boon Lay Rajah among others who have shut their doors and along with that, the loss of their heritage dishes soon to be gone forever. Fortunately not too far beyond our shores, there are still amazing heritage dishes to be found. For travellers who frequent the shopping haven of Bangkok, there’s a Chinese restaurant serving exceptional Teochew … [Read more...]
Dust – What we can’t see can seriously harm us
Recently the entire household was sniffing, coughing and itching as we did our year-end spring cleaning. In fact the kids were having persistent runny nose with no symptoms of flu or any illness. After some deduction, we knew that the culprit was a common one but a potentially harmful one - Dust. Around the world, allergies are on the rise. But what's alarming is that these triggers are found all around the home. On average, humans shed 28g skin flakes every month – a rich … [Read more...]

A Letter from Prison: How Parents Want The Best for Their Kids
“Please Sir; please let me know how she is doing in school...” As an educator for close to two decades, I’ve interacted and conversed with scores of parents of all backgrounds and from all walks of life. From talking to them about their child’s progress at Parent Teacher Meetings to at times, listening and trying to help them find a way out of domestic issues at home. But never have I come across this, a handwritten letter penned from a Mother who is currently incarcerated in Changi … [Read more...]
The Combi F2 Plus – Don’t Judge a Stroller by its Weight
So here it is, a stroller that weighs only 4.1kg. Holding it up confirms the claim - It’s really so light! In fact, my daughter’s school bag (approx 6 kg with a water bottle strapped to it) weighs heavier than that. If we think about it, there is actually an endless list of everyday items that weigh more than this stroller e.g. a sack of rice, an economy pack of detergent, a carton of printing paper…you get the idea. So, I was naturally skeptical. Because in the world of strollers, it seems … [Read more...]
Beauty World the Musical 2015 – Cha Cha Cha Charming!
Ok, let’s be upfront about it – anyone who wants to re-stage an iconic Singaporean musical in the SG50 year will have their work cut out for them. Especially since this could probably the last locally produced musical to wrap up the SG50 celebrations and especially since the year opened with a near-flop (Singapura, the musical – have the actors all been paid?), had an overwhelming response with LKY the Musical (did everyone get their tickets?) during the National Day season and … [Read more...]
