Chinese New Year is a festival of memories. As a child, I remember how my auntie would bring us to departmental stores to buy new outfits. I will also diligently help my Mum spring-clean the home. Growing up in a single-parent home, we were not affluent so our CNY preps were kept simple: one new set of bedsheets and PJs for my sister and I, a new set of curtains for the home (which I bought from Ikea with my own savings) and a few mandatory CNY snacks. Now that I'm a working Mom (with … [Read more...]

A ‘Purr-fect’ Night Out…with CATS!
Perched high above the song standard for any female singer is the moving soliloquy, ‘Memory’ - sung by Grizabella , the Glamour Cat who recounts her former glamorous days, which contasts starkly to her current down-trodden state, as she petitions for a chance to be reborn to new life to live all over again with perhaps greater significance. The song from the musical remains one of the top few classic and instantly-recognizable songs for virtually anyone who loves music. Here’s a chance to … [Read more...]
A letter to the GOs of Club Med Bali Kids’ Club
(‘GO’ stands for ‘Gentil Organisateur’. They are the ambassadors of Club Med. Led by the Resort Village Chief (‘Chief de Village’), they are the international staff who would personally attend to the needs of the Guests, run activities while still being able to jive, act, play sports and do amazing acrobatic skills each and every day. They are the essence and pillars of Club Med. Dear GOs, My apologies. This letter is long overdue. 2 years to be exact since our very first Club Med … [Read more...]
Homely Feasting at Gu Ma Jia (姑妈家)
In our Chinese culture, nephews or nieces address their eldest aunt from the paternal side 'Gu Ma' - 姑妈. So when we received the food tasting invite from this restaurant endearingly named 'Gu Ma Jia' 姑妈家 (loosely translated as 'Eldest Aunt’s House'), we knew we were in for a treat. 'Gu Ma Jia' 姑妈家 is located in the famous Sennett Estate which is dotted with many popular eateries. The founder of the restaurant is a spiritedly housewife (affectionately known as 'Gu Ma' 姑妈) who grew up on Pulau … [Read more...]
Run on the Wild Side@The Safari Zoo Run 2015
What is the Safari Zoo Run? As a family, we have participated in the Standard Chartered Kids Race in 2011 and Cold Storage Kids Run in 2014. Although we are not professional athletes, our experiences of participating in such races have been very fulfilling. Besides encouraging active lifestyles, running is a wholesome way to bond and create happy memories with our families. Our next race will be the highly anticipated Safari Zoo Run 2015 which was conceived to commemorate Singapore Zoo’s … [Read more...]
Fun with Sun, Seeds and Soil @Urban Farm & Barn
To see a world in a grain of sand, And a heaven in a wild flower, Hold infinity in the palm of your hand, An eternity in an hour. ~ William Blake Last Sunday, we had an experience which kept us quite intrigued, not fully knowing what to expect and yet we walked away totally enriched at the end. What are we talking about? You see, we learnt from our friend, CheekyMonkies about a farm tucked surreptitiously ‘on top of Bukit Panjang hill’ which allows families to plant their own veggies. … [Read more...]
Primary One Prep…From a Laissez-faire P1 Mom
Picture Credit Just when I thought we had survived the worst of all nightmares a P1-to-be parent might face (i.e. the balloting), I realised how naive it was of me to think that we could breeze through the start of P1 with our eyes shut. Part procrastination and part reluctance on my part to see our 6-year old start formal schooling system so soon, I practically did zero preparation for 'D-day'. All we did was to turn up for the Primary One Orientation in November, ordered her textbooks … [Read more...]
A Fitting Farewell and a Rousing Welcome – Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2015
It’s 1:15am, 1 January 2015 and I’m standing opposite the Floating Platform at One Fullerton. We are well into 2015 - the countdown and spectacular 8-minute fireworks had concluded an hour ago but still, the 25,000 strong crowd was still clapping and cheering from the ongoing performances. It is evident that while there were smoke in the air during the fireworks display, the air was abuzz with heightened energy running all through the night, into the early morning of 2015…and it doesn’t seem to … [Read more...]
