Multiple Intelligences start with the premise that 'every child is smart'....we just need to help them find out what they are smart in and capitalize on their preferred learning style(s). As an educator, the Multiple Intelligences (MI) Theory (developed by Dr. Howard Gardner, a professor of Education at Harvard University 40 years ago) is not new to me. In fact, I enjoy using Multiple Intelligences strategies in my classrooms to engage my students in learning. In a nutshell, there are at … [Read more...]
The day I was a Doctor…at Mt. Elizabeth Novena Hospital!
Doc. Dana reporting for duty!Picture this: You’re ill, lying on your bed and recuperating at home. Through your medicine-induced, half-drowsy state, you hear the familiar footsteps of your child approaching. Lovingly, you carve a weak smile and open your eyes to be greeted by a face clad with surgical mask, bearing a pair of scissors in one hand and a knife in the other, muttering the words “ Don’t worry Daddy…I will cure you…I’ve done this many times”. You spring out of bed, if it’s not for … [Read more...]

Many Ways of Seeing…a Design Workshop for Preschool Kids

June Holiday Programme: Abrakadoodle Big Circus Camp
This being the last week of the June vacation, we signed Dana up for three days of art camp at Abrakadoodle to keep her meaningfully occupied. We've chosen the 'Big Abrakadoodle Circus' camp which spells fun! We like Abrakadoodle for its proximity to our home, creative curriculum involving a wide range of mediums and their spontaneous rapport with the children. As with all their camps, parents are invited for a short 'Show & Tell' session on the last day where each child would … [Read more...]
June Holiday Programme: Art Workshops By HeART Studio
‘I do not literally paint that table, but the emotion it produces upon me’... Henri Matisse (1869 – 1954) Tools of the Trade...Great art cannot be fabricated, it has to be inspired. Every artist, be it a painter, an actor or a musician, will attest to the fact that without inspiration, the creative sparks within will eventually die. Art Enrichment Centers are a dime a dozen in Singapore and Dana have attended a few. When it comes to art schools, a good syllabus alone does not … [Read more...]

Adventures of Learning to Ride A Bike (Part 2) – Ride Baby Ride!
I love cycling. Many of my childhood memories were centred around cycling. I remembered the only bicycle I had as a child was a ‘Girl’s Bike' - the ones without a center shaft, no gears, just 2 trusty brakes, a wire basket in front to act as a bumper and a 'dynamo' (of which kids these days would associate it with the washing detergent) to power the light…my bike was metallic blue and white in colour. I cycled for many reasons: to school, to tuition classes, to impress … [Read more...]

Falling in love with The Art of the Brick!
The beautiful ArtScience MuseumThe hubs had been wanting to bring Dana and I to this exhibition since beginning of the year but the non-museum rat in me kept procrastinating it. Last Friday, he had the rare afternoon off and insisted on bringing us to ArtScience Museum before it ends its run. Here's why.We are finally here!At the entrance, we were given a brief background of the man behind these … [Read more...]
