This post is dedicated to all my Daddy friends, near or far, in real or virtual space… who had in one way or another supported me through my fatherhood journey. Particularly to Winston, Nick and Andy, who stopped, waited and kept a look-out for me during Sunday’s OCBC Cycle event. You need not have to, but you all did, willingly, cheerfully. Thank you. Here’s to our next ride. Photo Credit: OCBC Cycle FB “Are you ok?” “I’m just enjoying the view. As the Daddy and de-facto driver in the … [Read more...]
10 Reasons to visit Mid-Autumn@Gardens by the Bay 2016
This Mid-Autumn at Gardens by the Bay took me completely by surprise. I had come anticipating to see our favourite Garden adorned with beautiful lanterns but walked away with much more! Beyond just lanterns, it was actually very culturally immersive! A unique place to learn just that bit more about Chinese culture and folklore! Here’s 10 reasons why you should visit: 1. Gigantic Lanterns: There are 10 beautifully lit, larger-than-life lanterns that depict the story … [Read more...]
Singapore Science Festival 2016 – Build Your Smart Future
As parents, we sometimes lament about how to prepare our children for the future when we ourselves are uncertain about what the future holds. Well, one thing for certain which the future will depend on would be the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, or STEM in short. In fact, look around us today and we’ll see that STEM is very much powering our daily lives - the way we work, play and communicate. One effective way to enthuse our children in STEM is by … [Read more...]
Navy @ Vivo 2016 – More than just an ordinary Open House
It was a Saturday evening. In fact, it was already late at 9:40pm to be exact - way past the Open House's stipulated closing time of 9 p.m. I had just finished a late dinner in Vivocity with my daughter Dana after a 2-hour tour of the RSS Tenacious when I saw scores of Navy officers still busy manning their booths and engaging the public. From the 'Rope Works' – where an officer was patiently teaching an elderly man the intricacies of tying a knot, to the 'Photo Booth' where Navy officers were … [Read more...]
Return to S.E.A Aquarium – A Special Book Launch!
Book launch: ‘Sam, Sebbie and Di-Di-Di & Xandy: Return to the S.E.A. Aquarium’ and the Ocean Dream Experience Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” ― Benjamin Franklin It seemed so surreal, even for an adult like me to be there, in front of the world’s biggest aquarium tank, the Ocean Dome, watching the vast variety of marine life swimming leisurely in front of us and right at that moment, the book jumps to life – David Seow’s latest book: Return to … [Read more...]
RSAF Open House 2016 – Defending Our Skies
Two different sounds: It was just slightly about 50 years ago that we heard two very different sounds emanating from the skies above us. In fact, there may be still those who can still remember those 2 different sounds. One is when the Japanese bombers flew in to ripped through our towns and tore up our lives. The other, is when the British withdrew their troops sending scores of their planes flying away from this little isle that was once so strategic and important to them but now, clearly, … [Read more...]
Singapore Heritage Murals: The ever-growing collection by Yip Yew Chong
We first met Yew Chong (Y.C) back last year during an impromptu visit to check out his murals at Everton Road. There he was, unassumingly painting and adding the finishing touches to the Barber mural at Everton Road, under the humid September sun. Take a sneak peek at his murals here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8XS9lN432Y Since meeting the artist himself, we’ve taken quite a liking to his murals. Not only are they exceptionally well-painted, his attention to details and the … [Read more...]
Blossom Beats at Gardens By The Bay
We were toying with the idea of booking a flight to Japan to witness the Cherry blossoms in April. However due to various reasons, the plan didn't materialise. When we received the Press Release that there will be a Cherry blossoms floral display at Gardens By The Bay, I couldn't be happier. My dream of experiencing 'Hanami' under the Sakuras in Japan may not be able to come true (yet) but hey, I am now able to see them in person, right here in Singapore! More than 20 … [Read more...]
S.E.A. Aquarium – Merry Fishmas: Learn, Wish and Win this Christmas
We had family members visiting from the UK recently and they were keen to visit the S.E.A. Aquarium as they had heard much about it. Dana was eagerly looking forward to hosting her cousin whom she hasn't met in 2 years. Imagine our surprise when we discovered that over and above their usual exhibits, the S.E.A Aquarium has a special Christmas programme, 'Merry Fishmas' (1 Dec to 3 Jan 2016) for the festive season where it leverages on the year end holidays to allow families to … [Read more...]
National Gallery Singapore – Keppel Center for Art Education
The test of the morality of a society is what it does for its children.” ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer One consistent thing about the many great cities we have been to (such as New York, Boston, London and Tokyo) is that despite being prominent economic and political power houses, these cities do not neglect their children. In fact, they devote precious resources to nurture their young particularly in the area of the arts and sciences where their curiosity can be stoked and creativity … [Read more...]
